Over a year ago I embarked on a journey toward a healthier lifestyle. I called it “The Big Three” which included 1) quit smoking, 2) exercise, 3) improve eating habits. I took my last drag of cigarette smoke on March 29, 2012. I took a “Learn to Run” class and while I huffed and puffed through the first minute, I thought to myself there is no way I will accomplish running for 10 minutes straight. Last weekend I ran close to 90 minutes covering 10K in support of various community groups within the Vancouver downtown eastside.
I am reaching out to you about my next venture – Woman to Warrior event, this upcoming Saturday Sept 21st. This is a combination 5K run and obstacle course, and I’ve been told that by the end of the course I will be covered in dirt. This event is in support of Easter Seals, specifically to enable children in BC with disabilities to go camping. Camping is near and dear to my heart, and I am greatly motivated to encourage you to join me in providing support.
The fact that this event includes an obstacle course is not lost on me. It is a solid reminder that people with disabilities (and their families) face tremendous obstacles just living day-to-day. Help me remove some of the burden associated with financial obstacles, so the kids can focus efforts on overcoming their physical obstacles, and give them an memorable experience of the great outdoors.
Here is my commitment… I will match donations up to a total of $400. In addition, as a TELUS team member I am able to leverage our “Give Where We Live” program which in turn will match my donation as well. This way, I can turn your $10 donation into $30. Please feel free to forward this message to your own friends and family.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
